Art as Song, Song as Art

I recently had the pleasure of collaborating with the Idaho Songwriters Association in an inspiring creative exchange. In this unique experience, artists and songwriters were paired to inspire each other’s work. I was given a song as my muse, which led me to create a painting titled, “Nostalgia.” When I first heard the song I was to interpret, an image immediately came to mind: a quiet suburban street at sunset on a warm summer evening. It stirred fond memories of my childhood—playing barefoot outside until dusk, with the sounds of lawn sprinklers and crickets filling the air. Now, as an adult, revisiting those same streets brings a sweet sense of nostalgia, a reminder of the magic and innocence that summer once held.

In turn, my painting “Passing Storm” inspired a songwriter to craft a beautiful song based on my artwork.
