BEHIND THE PAINTINGS

BIOGRAPHY
Pamela Trail is a Fine Arts graduate of Colorado State University, continuing a legacy of strong female artists inspired by her mother and grandmother. Raised in Colorado, shaped by years near the ocean, and renewed by Idaho’s rugged landscapes, she brings the essence of these places into her work.

With a background in graphic design, Pamela’s approach reflects a sensitivity to composition, balance, and visual rhythm. Working primarily in acrylic and pencil, her paintings have been featured in galleries, juried exhibitions, and collections across the country, earning multiple awards.

Now based in Boise, Idaho, Pamela’s art invites viewers to pause, reflect, and connect. While each piece carries her personal perspective, it also offers space for others to engage, interpret, and find their own story. Her work is recognized for blending technical precision with expressive, emotionally resonant imagery.

ARTIST STATEMENT
Every painting I make is a self-portrait, a reflection of who I am in that moment.

I’m drawn to both control and looseness, and that tension shapes my process. I begin with an impulsive line and let paint move freely, layered and pushed and pulled, before introducing edges, shapes, and pattern. The painting becomes a negotiation between spontaneity and restraint.

Landscapes often emerge. As a child, I loved staring out the car window on long road trips, watching fields and towns blur past. I studied the lines, patterns, and shifting colors, wondering about the lives unfolding in those spaces.

These works do not depict a specific place. Landscapes become metaphors for inner terrain, layered, shifting, and always in transition.

Each painting holds that in-between space, a balance of control and freedom, clarity and blur. I let each piece go when it feels complete. There is always another horizon ahead.
